Backstage Tourism - Info Bulletin #1

What happened so far

As result of our call we got over 160 proposals from artists and scientists from various disciplines and out of 15 nations. The proposed ideas and topics are quite diverse and often very much depending on specific contexts - an issue we will have to discuss at the first workshop in jannuary 2004. Simultanously we carried out our own research, met several people and groups and collected material of interest. Thanks for all proposals and responses!

Proposed structures for the Backstage project

Backstage tourism is an ongoing process for at least two years. We plan to organize several workshops in 2004 and at least one bigger exhibition in 2005. During the workshops central topics will be developed and discussed from a transdisciplinary team of interested artist AND scientists. Based on this collective process, research projects, new texts, videos and other artistic works will be realized and finally presented in the 2005 exhibitions.
As a tool for moderating this process and enable a open discussion, we installed this mailing list and included so far all contacts we made so far. Everybody who gets this mail is already inscribed in the list. All news about the project will be distributed over this list.

Please use the list just for communication with general interest for the whole project. For individual requests please send mails directly to the coordinators: Michael Zinganel oder Peter Spillmann.

For those who definitely want to unsubscribe the list click this link .

Budget and funding

All parts of the planed process have to be founded separately. So far we just have the resources for starting the process and organizing the first workshop and the project archive in January in Graz. All following steps (workshops, researches, exhibitions) have still to be funded. For that reason we already started to send around proposals. Any contacts with possibly interested foundations and institutions would be very helpful!

Workshop and archive in Graz

The first step of the project is the organization of a workshop and the installation of an info-archive in the format of a travel agency in Forum Stadtpark in Graz. The program of the workshop will be posted on the list in the next days. Everybody is invited to join us.
But unfortunately we can only invite a few person "officially", which means taking over travel costs and accommodation!
The archive includes all material, we so far collected. All proposals we got, and which fit in the context of the backstage project will be represented on flyers looking similar like last minute offers. The "travel agency" will be presented in the framework of the workshop and is opened for public during 4 weeks. The constantly growing archive will be part of all further events in the frame work of Backstage tourism. New informations, texts and new proposals can be added at all time.
